When it's relevant

You are aged 25 to 74, have ever been sexually active and are due for screening, or you have bleeding between periods, after sex or after menopause.

Why it's worth a visit

Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers. The test looks for the virus that causes almost all cases, usually years before any harm is done.

How your GP can help

Your GP explains the two ways the test can be done, including collecting your own sample, arranges the test and follows up the result with you.

Who can help

All of our GPs can help with this.

Your questions answered

A few of the things people often wonder about before booking. If there's something else on your mind, just ask, we're always happy to talk it through.

Can I collect the sample myself?

Most people can. It is a simple swab that you take yourself in private at the practice. Your GP will tell you if a doctor-collected sample is a better choice for you.

How often do I need it?

Every five years if your result is normal. Your GP will advise if you need to return sooner.

Can I ask for a female doctor?

Yes. Choose when you book online, or ask the front desk.

I have had the HPV vaccine. Do I still need screening?

Yes. The vaccine protects against most, but not all, of the virus types involved.

Ready when you are.

Book online at any time, or call the front desk during opening hours.
