When it's relevant

You are 45 or older, or 30 or older if you are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, and have not been diagnosed with heart disease.

Why it's worth a visit

High blood pressure and cholesterol cause no symptoms. A heart health check estimates your risk of heart attack or stroke before anything happens.

How your GP can help

Your GP brings together your blood pressure, cholesterol, family history and lifestyle into a single risk estimate, and agrees a plan with you if it needs lowering.

Your questions answered

A few of the things people often wonder about before booking. If there's something else on your mind, just ask, we're always happy to talk it through.

Do I need a blood test first?

Usually, yes. It can be collected next door before or after your appointment.

How often should I have one?

Every two years for most people at low risk, and more often if your risk is higher.

What if my risk is high?

Your GP will discuss lifestyle changes and whether medicine may be appropriate. The decision is made with you.
